  5. ENHANCED and NEW FEATURES  May 16, 1991

  7. INSTALLATION:
  8. Installation is now much easier but also much more powerful with many more menu choices.
  9.  
  10. Improved ONLAN:
  11. > ONLAN/PC is now compatible with NACS/NASI.  That is, ONLAN/PC users will be able to reach an
  12. Access Server by calling out through a NACS.
  13. > Several improvements in ONFILE have been made including:
  14.       - An easier to use menu driven interface.
  15.       - XMODEM support.
  16.       - The ability to see files.
  17. > Scripting is now available which will allow "automation" such as dialing back at a particular time.
  18.  
  19. Memory:
  20. > The configuration of base RAM is somewhat more efficient which should result in APPROXIMATELY the
  21. following increases:
  22.       - With CGA +94K
  23.       - With MDA +84K
  24.       - With HGC +50K
  25.       - With VGA & EGA +75K 
  26. > Expanded Memory was formerly restricted to 400K per session.  The amount can now be selected by the
  27. Administrator.

  29. Waiting Cue
  30. If someone calls into the Access Server when all of the sessions are in use they will be placed in a waiting
  31. cue and given a session when one becomes available.  
  32.   
  33. 16 Sessions:
  34. 16 DOS sessions are now available instead of the past limitation of 15.
  35.  
  36. More 3270 Sessions
  37. All 16 sessions can now be 3270.

  53. NOTE: Some of these cards have 8 or 16 ports thereby decreasing the number of cards required to support
  54. 16 connections.

  56. Improved X.25 Support:
  57. THe XCI Card will enable a user to send up to 16 Access Server Sessions through a single X.25 line.

  59. Carrier Detect (CD):
  60. Modems and particularly multiplexers that brought CD high when powered on formerly where difficult to use
  61. with Access Server and CD had to be tied to DTR to correct the problem.  This will no longer be required.

  63. IPX Connection:
  64. In addition to connecting directly and over telephone lines it will now be possible to connect via a NetWare
  65. LAN.

  67. Additional Modems:
  68. Many additional modems are now supported including the Hayes Ultra 9600 and modems capable of speeds
  69. up to 38.4KBS.

  72. Leased Line
  73. Leased line support has been improved.
  74.  
  75. Increased NetBIOS Support:
  76. A patch will be available which will allow up to 16 NetBIOS sessions.

  78. View Indicator:
  79. An option is available to show a "happy face" a corner of the workstation screen if a console operator is
  80. viewing the workstation's session.

  82. Appletalk Support:
  83. MacIntoshes will be able to connect via Appletalk if NetWare 3.11 and NetWare for MacIntosh 3.0 is used.

  85. Sessions on Console
  86. The Access Server machine can now be used as a workstation.  Such DOS sessions will have 20K more RAM
  87. than "remote" DOS sessions.
  88.   
  89. Increased Security:
  90. - Administrators will now be able to force connection and/or LOGIN to a particular file server.
  91. - Support for encryption devices and other third party that enhance security such as secure modems.
  92. - Dialback can now be from a specified port.
  93. - The Administrator can now control the length of time a session will be held suspended awaiting
  94. reconnection.

  96. Added Management Functionality:
  97. > The console can now be used by the Administrator from a remote workstation this includes the ability to
  98. reset ports and sessions remotely.
  99. > Individual and group User Profiles cab now be written which among other things:
  100.       - Restrict the number of sessions per user.
  101.       - Restrict the amount of time available on the system to the user.
  102. > The console screen can now show either IPX statistics or port statistics.  This should help trouble shooting
  103. significantly.

  105. > New audit trail tools.
  106.  
  107. COST
  108. - The upgrade is free for customers who purchased Access Server of or after 4/1/91.
  109.  
  110. - If Access Server was purchased before 4/1/91 the upgrade price is $875.
  111.  
  112. - The Upgrade may be purchased from a Novell Gold or Platinum Reseller or directly from Novell (800-346-
  113. 7177).  Customers outside the U.S. and Canada should contact their local Novell Authorized Reseller.
